What Fluoride Does and How We Apply It
Cavity-causing bacteria in your child's mouth feed on sugar and produce acid. That acid attacks tooth enamel over time, creating the conditions for decay. Fluoride interrupts that process by strengthening enamel at the surface and making it harder for acid to break through.
Professional fluoride treatments deliver a higher concentration of fluoride than toothpaste alone, providing extra protection between visits. At Wheeler Pediatric Dentistry, we apply fluoride varnish after every cleaning and exam. It takes about one minute, dries quickly, and your child can eat and drink normally shortly after.
Professional fluoride is not the same as fluoride in toothpaste. The concentration is higher, and the protection lasts longer.
